So, as I was saying in the post just before this, Constantia Fresh is the most awesome wine event of the year! If you haven’t been to one yet, well you simply have no idea of the fun you’ve missed. I was fortunate enough to crack an invite last year and have been counting the days to this year’s event since.
On Saturday 28 February the waiting was finally over, and we very excitedly shimmied on through to the beautiful Buitenverwachting wine estate at the foothills of the Constantiaberg. This event is so well organised and executed, you’re guaranteed to be in for an afternoon of seamless spoiling in what must be one of the world’s most beautiful settings.
From 3pm to 8pm you stroll the scenic lawns sipping the best wines the Cape has to offer while snacking on delicious dishes from Cape Town’s premier restaurants…all included in your ticket price, you don’t need to bring any cash with you although you can purchase bottles of wines and some other things if you like. What I also really admire is that ticket numbers are limited, you stroll about sipping and snacking, or picnic on the lawns in style. This isn’t the usual story of packing in as many peeps as possible to rake in as much dough as you can. There’s no frenzied crush to refill your vino, it’s all very relaxed and laid back. The venue is large and spacious with even something of a private “tea” garden set up behind the main venue if you want a bit more privacy. Obviously no one’s sipping tea though, although there was delicious freshly brewed coffee available too. In this area there were little tables & chairs setup for small rendezvous and some comfy giant poof thingy’s to lie on. I did sneak a shot of a lady having herself a little “lie-down” 😉 Look out for it in the gallery slide show. There is also live music supplied, and if you need to rehydrate they offer mineral water options on tap to help yourself as you please. It’s well worth the price, you might even get to sneak in a selfie with Paul Cluver, I was too shy to ask 😛
Ticket price is R500, and best you book early as they sell out. Lucky for me I know people 😉 …speaking of which I must thank Natalie Opstaele from Almenkerk Wine Estate for having us as their guests and keeping us entertained, as well as my good friend Emil Den Dulk from Liquidity for getting me hooked!
Maybe next year they’ll pay me to take some photo’s 🙂 …hope you like and see you there in 2016
